Swift and Defoe: an exhibition of material from the Monash University Library Rare Books Collection 10 June - 1 September 2009

The exhibition was held in the Rare Books Exhibition space, Sir Louis Matheson Library, Monash University from 10 June - September 2009 Opening address given by Professor Clive Probyn, School of English, Communications and Performance Studies, Monash University. When Monash University began in 1961, one of the earliest major purchases was of a collection of Swift items. The Library has continued to add early editions and manuscripts to the Swift collection and material relating to Swift's contemporaries, of whom the greatest is Daniel Defoe.
