2 March 1944. Surveyed by Commander B.O.M. Davy, R.N. assisted by Lieutenants J.H. Nankivell, L.P. Freyberg, F.E.B. Haselfoot & H.T. Bennett and sub-lieutenant H.V. Silk R.N. H.M. surveying ship "Merlin" 1911. Additional topography by Capt. F.C.C. Pasco and the officers of the H.N. surveying ship "Merlin" 1913. Underlined figures on the dry banks express the heights in feet above the datum to which the soundings are reduced. All other heights are expressed in feet above high water springs. Soundings in fathoms reduced to 1-17 feet below the level of low water of ordinary spring tides. Datum. The datum to which the soundings are reduced (1-17 feet below the level of low water of ordinary spring tides) is 10.01 feet below the level of the upper surface of a granite stone imbedded in cement at the head of the government pier. small corrections 1920, 1921, 1922, 1923, 1927, 1929, 1931, 1935, 1936. Published by the admiralty 4th February 1913 under the superintendence of Rear Admiral H.E. Purey-Cust. No 947. Engraved by Weller & addison. date top corner 6.3.44. Price three shillings. Magnetic variation in 1922, increasing about 1' annually. All bearings are true and are given from seaward. Springs rise 7 1/4 feet, neaps rise 6 feet above the level to which the soundings are reduced. Includes conversion table fathoms - metres..
