Description

Catalogue of an exhibition held at 200 Gertrude Street.
Dominic Redfern's large scale video production presented seven seconds of the feature film Being There re-editied and projected at large scale upon two walls of the main gallery. The remixed sequence of close-up shot of a vintage TV screen was emptied out and devoid of narrative, representational or literary content. Instead, Redfern's projection reveled in the unstable, corrosive and materialist character of video itself, so that the gallery became awash with light and colour, accompanied by an edited sound-track of static and interference which took pleasure in its concrete and domestic resonance.
Essay: Philip Brophy.
