Alternative Title
Flora Australiensis : a description of the plants of the Australian territory - Volume 5, Part 1
Description
The Flora Australiensis, written by George Bentham with the assistance of Ferdinand Mueller was the most complete colonial flora ever. It was originally published in seven unillustrated volumes from 1863 - 1878
7 volume set rebound into 19 volumes to include numerous pages of hand-painted or pencil-drawn illustrations, plus some printed ones from previous publications. Included in the set is a manuscript notebook with an index of the illustrations in the 19 volumes. Handwritten comments on the illustrations include some identified as being in Mueller's hand, and suggest this copy may have been a mock-up for a 2nd, illustrated edition. It has also been suggested that this set was Von Mueller's own and includes the sketches sent to him from his field officers. Set has, loosely inserted in many volumes, various items of ephemera.
Volume 5. Myoporineae to Proteaceae
Extent
7 volumes : illustrations, some colour ; 23 cm
